front: The " Monumento al Lobo Marino " (Monument to the Sea Wolf), located in Mar del Plata

The Sea Lion Monument is a statue located in Mar del Plata , Argentina . The sculpture consists of two figures made of stone, designed by the Argentine artist José Fioravanti and sculpted by the Slovenian Janez Anton Gruden. The sculptures are located in the Plaza de la Armada Argentina on the Bv. Maritime PP Ramos . It is considered the greatest symbol of Mar del Plata.

These sculptures mainly represent the presence of these mammals on the central beaches of the city of Mar del Plata, since the seat of the current city of Buenos Aires, until the second half of the 19th century. XIX was a large "lobería" (resting, breeding and mating place for a large number of sea lions ) that is why the coasts of Mar del Plata were known as "La Lobería Grande" before the town and then city received the name of Mar of Silver.

The sculpture made by Fioravanti in the 1940s , became the favorite photographic icon of tourists since its inauguration. Posing in front of these enormous sculptures was the testimony of a summer vacation in the Happy City , as Mar del Plata was named
