front: The National Emblem of Bangladesh: a water lily bordered on two sides by rice sheaves. The water lily is the country's national flower, and is representative of the many rivers that run through Bangladesh. Rice represents its presence as the staple food of Bangladesh, and for the agriculture of that nation. Above are a three-leaf clover of tea leaves and four stars representing the four principles of the first constitution of Bangladesh in 1972: nationalism, secularism, socialism, and democracy.

Lettering: ONE TAKA

back: At the top is the name of the issuing authority in Bengali. In the center is a portrait of the father of the nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. On the left the value of the coin is written using the Bengali alphabet and on the right as an Arabic numeral. At the bottom is written the year of issue and the name of the country in Bengali and English.
