NOTE: EXTRA-LARGE COIN
Denmark 5 Kroner {1960-1972}
King Frederick IX
FEATURING
front: Crowned and quartered arms of Denmark divide date within two oak branches
The national coat of arms of Denmark consists of three pale blue lions passant wearing crowns, accompanied by nine red hearts, all in a golden shield. It is historically the coat of arms of the House of Estridsen
The ram represents the Faroe Islands, and the polar bear represents Greenland.
While the charges are clearly "heart-shaped", they did not in origin depict hearts, or symbolize any idea related to "love". Instead, they are assumed to have depicted the leaves of the water-lily
back: Portrait Frederik IX facing right, titles, mintmark, and initials C♥S or S♥S below
Lettering: FREDERIK IX KONGERIGE AF DANMARK
